Dozens of PC games being released every year, and just a few of them are worthy to play. So, which are the best offline story mode games?

In the following list, you will find what you are looking for. Note that most of these games require a mid-range gaming PC.

Best offline pc games (story mode)

1. Deathloop

  • Genre\Gameplay: First-person shooter, puzzles, action
  • Playing hours: 15-20 hours (approximately)
  • Devices\platforms: Pc, PS5
  • Similar games: Prey, Dishonored Series, Outer Wilds, Hitman

Deathloop is a kind of perfect mix between dishonored mystery and amusement, Prey story, Hitman intelligence, and a little bit of Dark Souls game's theme.

Overall, for the very first moment you may be surprised that this game got a 10\10 review on various gaming websites, as it has been nominated eight times for the Annual Games Awards.

Moreover, it is worthy of that, in addition to killing people in the game there are many incidents in the game that allow you to connect the dots to reach your final goal.

Incidents in the game revolve around a man called Colt who had amnesia on a mysterious island called Blackreef, with a simi-polar weather in the 1960s, trapped in a repeated timepan that continues forever.

Purpose of the game is to kill 8 targets in 4 different sites within a day before the day start over from scratch- at the first sight it may seem impossible because one episode is divided into four different phases along the day, and you can only visit one site per phase!

And all of this must be done while being hunted by a killer called Juliana who wants to bring you down, as she can be controlled by other players who also invade the world of the game like Dark Souls games.

2. It Takes Two

One of the top cooperative multiplayer games ever

  • Genre\Gameplay: Platformer, third-person, puzzles, co-op only, multi-genre
  • Playing hours: 15+ hours (approximately)
  • Similar games: A way out, Brothers: A tale of two sons, Unravel Two, Overcooked 2

It Takes Two game is listed as "unique" because you can hardly ever find a cooperative multiplayer game with story mode to play with your friend offline at home or online.

However, most of games these days are one-on-one, against all, or to play alone in story mode with no friends.

What makes It Takes Two extremely amazing is the different variations of the ways you can play the game.

Sometimes you will fight monsters in forts likewise Diablo game. Sometimes you'll control a drone or ride a spider to accomplish a certain mission. Also a heavy fight with a squirrel that you have to defeat in a battle like Mortal Kombat.

It is no brainer that you need a second player in this game as it's name tells "It Takes Two".

3. Psychonauts 2

  • Genre\Gameplay: Platformer, third-person, collect-em-up
  • Playing hours: 15-20 hours (approximately)
  • Devices\platforms: Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PS4, PC

Psychonauts 2 has an exceptional quality that combine both joyful and adventure down to its unique atmosphere, character design, as well as the interesting storytelling that makes you feel as if you were watching a cartoon movie.

The variation of designs and gameplay techniques as well as the different worlds in this game will make you feel like you are moving from one game to another. As a result, it will give you a lot of enthusiasm to keep playing to know much more about what comes next.

4. Assassin's Creed Valhalla

  • Genre\Gameplay: open-world action-adventure, stealth options
  • Playing hours: 45 hours (approximately)
  • Devices\platforms: Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PS4, PC
  • Similar games: AC Origins, Watch Dogs, Legion Odyssey

Assassin's Creed series had a significant change lately, as the remarkable shift in game style from Sealth and maneuver into a combative style along with impersonate the character of the hero who is named Alexios for the male version and Kassandra for the female one.

Which is the best gameplay style for me, a vast open world full of variety in which you move to complete main missions and hundreds of sub-quests if you want which I recommend.

Despite the large size of the game and the plethora of missions in Valhalla, you will not feel that because of the quality of the missions and the fact that they are often fun and interesting.

Also, you will see the most brilliance appeal of some characters in the game such as Ivar the Boneless, and the tree of extraordinary skills in order to improve your character in the game and it's abilities.

Not to forget to mention the marvelous prevailing Vikings theme on the game.

5. Red Dead Redemption 2

  • Genre\Gameplay: open-world, shooting, action-adventure
  • Playing hours: 40 hours (approximately)
  • Devices\platforms: Xbox One X, Xbox One, PS4 Pro, PS4, PC
  • Similar games: Assassins Creed: Odyssey, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, Battlefield 5, Mafia III

Words are not sufficiently enough to describe this masterpiece, this game is considered one of the top-notch open world games with quality GTA V as well, both of which are produced by Rockstar studio.

The realistic touches within the game world are totally amazing, which gives an enormous sense of joy and entertainment. In addition to the interesting storytelling of the Rockstar studio.

Even after finishing the long story I can't wait to come back and play more, truly a rare quality game.

6. GTA V

  • Genre\Gameplay: Open-world action/discovering
  • Playing hours: 32-72 hour (approximately)
  • Devices\platforms: Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PS4, PC
  • Similar games: Watch Dogs 1 and 2, GTA: Vice City, Red Dead Redemption 2 GTA: San Andreas, Saints Row series, GTA IV

GTA V came in this list after Red Dead Redemption 2; because in my opinion, it is not worth your time, especially with all the amazing games available.

However, if you are a fan of GTA series, you won't find any better than GTA V especially after the release of GTA: The Trilogy- which unfortunately its quality was not as good as expected.

Anyway, GTA V is the most common game as it can be played online with friends for more fun.

7. Horizon Zero Dawn

  • Genre\gameplay: Open-world action, stealth options
  • Playing hours: 20 hours (approximately)
  • Devices\platforms: PS5, PS4, PC
  • Similar games: Horizon Forbidden West, God of War 4, Days Gone, Ghost of Tsushima

Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the best games on the PS4 platform that later became available for PC.

It combines interesting storytelling with constant and sometimes slowing down the fight. In addition to the superb graphics that are undoubtedly worthy of time, which also gives you a great pleasure playing the game or even to pause a little to enjoy the music in the background.

8. Resident Evil Village

  • Genre\Gameplay: Survival Horror, first-person, combat buzzles
  • Playing hours: 12-15 hours (approximately)
  • Devices\platforms: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox, PS5, PlayStation, PC

In case you are looking for a game that has a realistic and nerve-racking atmosphere with realistic graphics as well as a rich variety of gameplay and different modes for a unique experience like such as Mercenaries which urge you to kill all your enemies as quickly as possible.

Your best choice will be Resident Evil Village, which is the latest version of the famous Resident Evil series.

Also, when it is compared with Outlast 2 in terms of how terrifying, it is relatively less panicky.
